Optimize your data for a smooth transition to feed® PIM

Do you want a new PIM system?

We give you an insight into how you can migrate your data to user-friendly feed® PIM.

Now that our feed® delivery team has completed several successful migration projects from other well-known PIM systems, it's time to share the news of how easy this can be for you and your business too.

The thought of undertaking such projects can be overwhelming, but with the flexibility and import capabilities supported by feed® "out of the box", we see this becoming a smooth process. You can do the migration yourself and own the process all the way through, or you can work with our feed® delivery team - the choice is yours.

PIM systems can be anything from "too simple" to large and complex, but with feed® PIM you get a complex system that is intuitive and very user-friendly.

Our main focus is to make the system as user-friendly as possible, while ensuring that the necessary functionality and system-friendly integration options are taken care of. In practice, moving your data to feed® PIM is a task you can carry out yourself, provided you can export the desired information from your existing system and convert it to an Excel/CSV format. feed® has a number of different import templates and APIs to import your data into your new feed® PIM.

Optimizing your data: The first step to a successful migration

Before you start moving your data to feed® PIM, we recommend optimizing and quality assuring the data you want to migrate. This involves a thorough review of your data and an assessment of which users, consumers and channels feed® PIM should be a source for. This forms the basis for which data you want to transfer to feed® PIM.

  1. Define Consumers and Channels:

    • Identify which consumers (internal users, customer service, customers, partners) and channels (e-commerce, printed catalogs, industry databases, marketplaces) feed® PIM should be sourced from.

    • This will help you decide which data is necessary to migrate and how it should be structured in feed®.

    • Data from other sources (e.g. ERP) may not need to be migrated, but can be retrieved directly from the correct source.

  2. Review of Your Data:

    • Start by evaluating what data is essential to your business.

    • Consider what information is really needed in feed® PIM based on which consumers and channels the system should support.

    • Remove redundant data: Make sure that only relevant data that is needed is imported. This provides a better overview and easier data processing.

    • In a PIM world, we believe less is more, giving you the best possible control over your data

How to move your data to feed® PIM

  1. Export Data from Current PIM system:

    • Select the product data you want and export it, preferably to an Excel or CSV format.

    • Repeat the process for other data and master data, e.g.

      1. Media (images, documents etc...)

      2. packages

      3. product owners

      4. data registers

      5. product groups

      6. supplier registers

      7. Relationships.

  2. Structuring of master data in feed® PIM:

    • This is a critical step. Structuring your master data is the foundation of how feed® adapts to you and your organization.

    • Export master data from your existing system if possible.

    • feed® has an API that can be used to import this data into feed®. Our feed® delivery team can help you with this.

Recommendation: We recommend our customers and partners to build master data manually in feed®. This allows you to become familiar with your own data model and how to build and work with feed® as your new PIM solution.

  1. Import Data to feed® PIM:

    • feed® supports the import of multiple types of data via Excel templates. This includes product data, media, packaging, product owners, data registers, product groups, supplier registers and relationships.

    • For complex structures such as base and variant products, the feed® API can be used. Our delivery team has many pre-developed jobs that can be customized and used for your needs.

Import templates and API support

feed® PIM offers downloadable import templates to make the process as easy as possible. We also support the use of APIs where these fall short.
