Flexible on most things - except quality

There's a lot you can do with a window or door to get it exactly the way you want. At Gilje Tre, you can combine virtually all options to get exactly the function you want. Gilje gives you doors and windows manufactured in Norway for Norwegian conditions.

More than 70 years of drive and quality focus

The year was 1948, and the country was still characterized by a shortage of goods, rationing and harsh conditions. It was against this backdrop, in the wake of World War II, that the five Gilje brothers built a wood products factory at Gilja in Rogaland. In the beginning, production consisted mainly of windows, doors, leather bags, clogs and a modest amount of wooden chairs, but the goal - and dream - was always full-time production of windows and doors.

What the brothers didn't know at the time was that this would require so much courage, stubbornness and innovation over more than half a century. And that's a good thing. The story of Gilje Trevarefabrikk contains several chapters about defying adversity and focusing on opportunities rather than limitations in order to survive and expand under tough conditions. A collaboration with the successful house and cabin manufacturer Block Watne at the end of the 1950s gave the factory a real boost. The 60s and 70s were times of optimism and growth.

In the early 1980s, Gilje decided to expand its sales area to include Southern Norway and parts of Eastern Norway. It turned out to be a smart move. Deliveries to Block Watne declined at this time, but sales in the new markets increased. Once again, the Gilje family made business moves that put them at the forefront of developments.

New markets and changing customer needs led Gilje to take over the exterior door manufacturer Nordoor AS at Moi in 1992. Expansions and investments in machinery at this factory have long been, and still are, a high priority. This means first and foremost that Gilje Tre can produce a wide range of exterior doors that meet today's strict requirements for quality, design and aesthetics, but it also means that the company can call itself a complete supplier in both the window and door segments.
