Digital product passport in feed PIM

Digital Product Passport: How new EU requirements affect you - and how feed® PIM helps you meet them

In line with the EU's growing focus on sustainability and the circular economy, increasingly stringent requirements for documentation and tracking of products are being introduced. One of the most groundbreaking measures is the Digital Product Passport (DPP), a key part of the EU's strategy to reduce environmental impact and promote transparency in the value chain.

The European Commission is working to establish a solution for DPP that will be ready in 2026. 18 months later, the Digital Product Passport will be mandatory for all products requiring CE marking under the new Construction Products Regulation (CPR). This means that anyone who manufactures, imports or sells products in the EU must be able to provide comprehensive and accurate information about their products throughout their lifecycle. This places high demands on data structure, management and systems.

What is Digital Product Passport?

Digital Product Passport is a digital solution for collecting and sharing information about a product's content, origin, production, maintenance and reuse. The passport follows the product from production to recycling and includes, among other things:

  • Unique identifiers

  • Declaration of Performance and Conformity (DoPC)

  • Environmental documentation

  • General product information

  • User guide and safety information

  • Technical documentation

  • Other statutory documentation

The aim is to provide consumers, entrepreneurs and governments with easy access to information so that they can make better and more sustainable decisions.

How will this affect your business?

The new requirements mean that companies must have full control of product data and documentation, and be able to adapt to an increasingly detailed reporting regime. Non-compliance can lead to:

  • Sanctions and fines

  • Loss of market access in the EU

  • Reduced competitiveness

Meeting these demands without the right tools can be both time-consuming and costly. This is where feed PIM comes in as a key solution.
